On 9 September 2020, resigning ITEA Vice-chairman Philippe Letellier hosted a special webinar dedicated to the 2020 ITEA Awards of Excellence, where Zeynep Sarılar presented the awards to four ITEA projects, one of which is the MOS2S Project, in which our partners (DIA, ETRI) from the OPTIMUM project also participated. MOS2S is a project that allows people on the other side of the world to watch live events in real time, as if they were attending the event in person. Following the successful testing of the MOS2S applications in the Smart City Playground, a wider implementation is expected to further transform the role of citizens in both politics and entertainment. We are delighted and proud that our partners from the OPTIMUM project took part in this ambitious project and were honored with the ITEA Award of Excellence for impressive results with tremendous benefits for industry and society.
ITEA Award of Excellence
The ITEA Award of Excellence recognizes the outstanding performance of project partners in terms of innovation, business impact and standardization. This award goes to high-level technical contributions based on genuine European collaboration that deliver significant results and advance the program and its objectives.

MOS2S - New Forms of Engagement in Entertainment and Society
Participation and personalization are becoming more and more important nowadays. To take this engagement to a higher level, 17 partners from 4 countries have teamed up in the ITEA MOS2S project, led by TNO in the Netherlands, to create the world's first ways to engage citizens and audiences with live events. The MOS2S project implements and tests audiovisual technologies in a dedicated smart city playground, where the playground provides an event platform as a stepping stone to a full smart city operating system, and to support validation and test concepts.
The MOS2S project was awarded the ITEA Award of Excellence for its outstanding performance.

ENTOC - Engineering Tool Chain for Efficient and Iterative Development of Smart Factories
We congratulate our OPTIMUM project partners IFAK and TARAKOS GmbH as well as the entire ENTOC project team to being honoured with the ITEA “Award of Excellence” on September 9th, 2020.
Matthias Riedl, leader of the German consortium on ENTOC says about the project and the special honour: 'After the AVANTI project, the German project partners succeeded for the second time in receiving the Excellence Award from ITEA with the ENTOC project based on AVANTI. As the German consortium leader, I am very proud to lead this project with extremely engaged partners. Within ENTOC, ifak contributed concepts for the formalization of requirements for production systems, implemented a model store for the consistent deployment of behavior-based component descriptions and integrated feedback of real-time production data in simulation environments for virtual commissioning'.
Klaus Hanisch, R&D Coordinator and Sales, Project Manager at tarakos GmbH, is equally enthusiastic and delighted: 'As an SME, we are proud to be part of the successful ENTOC team after our involvement in the AVANTI project, which also won the Excellence Award. In the ENTOC project, tarakos has contributed to the conception, development and standardisation of formalised requirement descriptions for production and especially material flow systems. Their integration into a 3D planning tool enables the layout-related requirements specification. Additionally, connected model stores and eCatalogues allow optimisations in the tendering and offer process. In particular, the lively exchange with the partners Daimler and Volvo led to innovative software solutions for layout-related requirements specification'.
ENTOC (Engineering Tool Chain for Efficient and Iterative Development of Smart Factories) develops standardized modelling strategies for Smart Factories with established production systems, for example with highly automated production or semi-automated final assemblies. The engineering tool chains used for complex production systems are also optimized in the project.
FLEX4APPS - Platform for Application and Infrastructure Flexibility in Cyber-Physical Systems
We congratulate our OPTIMUM project partner NXP as well as the entire FLEX4APPS project team to the receipt of the “ITEA Award of Excellence” on September 9th, 2020. Till S. Witt (NXP), the FLEX4APPS Consortial leader says about the project and the ITEA Award of Excellence: „It was a great honour to be able to lead this project and collaborate with many ITEA partners. Within FLEX4APPS NXP demonstrated the ease of integrating secure elements (SE) and the benefit towards raising the security of IoT components. We took some home automation components, showed their vulnerability and secured them by shielding them with an i.MX & SE setup. I am very proud that the FLEX4APPS project has won the “ITEA Award of Excellence” and congratulate all involved on this major milestone. “
FLEX4APPS (Platform for Application and Infrastructure Flexibility in Cyber-Physical Systems) develops a solution that enables the comprehensive monitoring and optimization of large, distributed data and cyber-physical systems. The focus of the complex system monitoring of cloud communication and IoT infrastructures as well as virtual applications is to disturb the target systems as less as possible.
