Also the OPTIMUM team continues to work – despite Covid-19

The majority of our 16 project partners are currently continuing to work on topics related to OPTIMUM in their home offices.

Last week, however, the personal commitment of our Dortmund based project partner Comnovo was required in the Demag Research Factory. Comnovo has equipped the hall with a localization system. This allows completely new assist functions and secure (semi-)autonomous and collaborative work of man and machine.

Needless to say, the applicable safety regulations such as social distancing and the wearing of mouth-and-nose protection were followed.

In addition, Comnovo employees were equipped with a very special safety vest - newly introduced to the market by their parent company Linde. These vests warn by means of optical and acoustic signals as soon as there is a risk of violating the safety distance to be kept.

An implementation workshop with several project partners at the Demag Research Factory is being planned for mid-June 2020, if circumstances permit. The workshop, which was to take place at the beginning of March, had to be cancelled due to Covid-19.

Also the presentation of OPTIMUM at the Hanover Fair with partners from Germany, Turkey and Korea at the joint stand of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Now we cannot implement the research results - especially in the large demonstrators at Demag, Ermetal (Turkey) and Magtel (Spain) - as required. This leads to a corresponding delay in the project schedule.

In order to still be able to implement, demonstrate and validate the planned technological innovations, the consortium partners are currently applying for an extension of the project time with the respective National Project Management Organisations. We will inform separately about the decision.
